Gitmo hunger strikers kept like animals

An attorney says many of the hunger-striking detainees at the US infamous Guantanamo Bay prison in Cuba are being treated like animals and brutally force-fed.

David Remes, a lawyer representing 17 Guantanamo prisoners, told Reuters on Monday “They restrained detainees who don’t need to be restrained. That’s been happening during the hunger strike because they want to make it as miserable as possible to be on hunger strike.”
The leading human rights attorney strongly criticized the notorious prison camp’s detainment procedures particularly for those undergoing the hunger strike.
Officials said that 19 of the prisoners on hunger strike were being force-fed via tubes snaked up their nose and into their stomach, and five had been hospitalized.
There are at least 130 prisoners on hunger strike – 30 more than the number reported by the US military, the attorney added.
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has also urged the US President Barack Obama’s administration to mend the situation in Guantanamo that has compelled prisoners to starve themselves, saying that the act of force-feeding is akin to torture.
