Hamas denounces the killing of a politburo member, citing it as evidence of ‘israel’s’ ongoing acts of terrorism

The Gaza-based resistance group Hamas has issued a strong condemnation following the assassination of its political bureau member, Ismail Barhoum, allegedly killed in an Israeli airstrike targeting Nasser Hospital. The organization described the incident as a further addition to what it termed the Israeli regime's longstanding "record of terrorism."

The announcement followed an incident in which Israeli forces struck the emergency department of Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, located in southern Gaza. At the time of the attack, Barhoum was undergoing medical treatment at the facility.

Hamas has condemned the recent attack, characterizing it as yet another crime in what they describe as the “occupation’s extensive history of terrorism, which includes violations against sacred sites, human lives, and health facilities.”

The organization asserted that the recent strike, coupled with the ongoing systematic targeting of Palestinian civilians and leaders by Israeli authorities, underscores what it described as Tel Aviv’s “disregard for international conventions.”

The organization also denounced the bombing of the hospital, labeling it as “a significant escalation in Zionist war crimes” and a clear breach of international law.

Hamas has honored Barhoum, lauding him as a pivotal figure in the Islamic and national advocacy efforts and a key architect of the resistance movement in Gaza.

The statement highlighted that he dedicated his life to serving his community, faith, and cause, demonstrating unwavering loyalty to Palestine and its holy sites. He was sincerely committed to his mission and actively engaged in preaching, community initiatives, and humanitarian efforts.

Hamas has reaffirmed its dedication to its resistance efforts, declaring to both Allah and the Palestinian people that the sacrifices of its leaders will serve as a guiding force toward achieving liberation and the right of return.

The movement emphasized that Israeli targeted killings would not dissuade the resistance from continuing its fight.

The assassination of Barhoum represents the most recent in a series of targeted killings of senior Hamas figures, with the political bureau losing five of its 20 members in just the past week.

In the aftermath of the strike, the emergency department at Nasser Hospital was left entirely non-operational.

Gaza’s Government Media Office reports a significant escalation in the death toll within the Strip, now exceeding 50,021 individuals. More than 60 percent of the casualties are comprised of women and children, underscoring the severe impact on vulnerable populations.
