On March 22nd, 2004, Israeli aircraft received an order to assassinate Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, the founder of Hamas Resistance Movement. The sheikh, on his wheelchair, was leaving a mosque close to his house when he became the target of an airstrike. Yassin and six of his guards were killed instantly there.

Yassin was born in 1938 in thr Joura village of Al-Majdal, right by the current green line. Yassin has been remembered as the top leader of Hamas, that he helped establish in 1987 to fight back the Israeli forces as a resistance wing. Yassin has also been called “the Teacher”, by the hundreds of students he taught. He established the Islamic Complex, a hospital, the Islamic University of Gaza & many schools.

The then Israeli Prime Minister, Ariel Sharon wanted to eliminate the entire Palestinian leadership including Yasser Arafat & Ahmed Yassin. However, the Palestinian-Israeli conflict has changed, into direct confrontations.

Over a decade after Israeli air forces assassinated Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, the Hamas Resistance Movement still follows the footsteps of its founder, towards liberating the occupied territories from Israel.
