Iranian Speaker Hails Omani Officials for Adopting Wise Stances

Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani in a meeting with Speaker of Oman’s Advisory Council Khaled bin Hilal bin Nasser Al-Mawali lauded the wise positions taken by Masqat on regional and international developments, describing it as an important factor in the expansion of ties between the two countries.

During the meeting, Larijani said that the two nations have many historical commonalities and wise stances of Oman in sensitive and complicated developments in the region in recent years have been an element to strengthen mutual ties.

He referred to the world arrogant powers’ attempst to widen gap among Islamic schools of thought, and said that the differences are not in principles and Iran’s policy is to strengthen unity and brotherhood among Islamic countries.

Al-Mawali, for his part, said Iran is a big country with old history and a high political weight in the world and regional developments.

Iran and Oman have expanded cooperation in a variety of areas such as economy and defense since Iran’s President Ahmadinejad took office in 2005. The two countries signed a security agreement in August 2009.

In August 2010, Iran and Oman signed an agreement to further boost mutual cooperation in the field of defense.

In December 2010, the Iranian parliament approved a bill that allows Tehran to implement an agreement on security cooperation and coordination with Oman.
