Late Saturday evening, jubilant supporters of Hezbollah and the Amal Movement took to the streets of South Lebanon and Nabatieh to celebrate the resounding victories of their candidates in the municipal and mayoral elections.
Despite unanimous acclamations in half of the southern towns leading to decreased voter turnout, South Lebanon reported a participation rate of 43.3%, while 36.7% of voters in Nabatieh exercised their right to vote.
Amid the ongoing ballot count, the electoral lists supported by Hezbollah and the Amal Movement have secured victories in the towns of Aitaroun, Shaqra, Al-Sultaniyeh, Saksakiye, Baraachit, Hanin, Deir Qanoun, Froun, Dibbine, and Jwayya.
Hezbollah and the Amal Movement have secured a significant victory in the districts of Tyre and Nabatieh.
The Free Patriotic Movement has made public the roster of candidates it has nominated for the electoral contest in Jezzine.
In addition to securing significant election victories by acclamation in 109 out of 271 towns and villages across South Lebanon and the Nabatieh governorates, voters, whose candidates are participating in the municipal and mayoral election race, have been arriving at polling stations in large numbers, resulting in high turnout rates.
