Hamas: EU’s decision victory for Palestinian resistance

The Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, hailed the European Union Justice Court’s decision to remove Hamas from the EU’s terrorist blacklist, dubbing the move a victory for the Palestinian resistance and people.

Hamas hailed in a statement issued Wednesday the EU’s decision, paying tribute to the court and its jurisdiction.

“The decision comes to correct a historic mistake committed by the EU in 2003 when the latter blacklisted Hamas as a terrorist organization,” the Movement said.

Hamas called on the EU to activate the decision and work on ending all forms of oppression against the Palestinian people.

“The decision is a victory for the Palestinian people and a heavy blow dealt to the criminal Israeli entity,” the statement read.

“Resistance is Palestinians’ legitimate right, as already guaranteed by all international laws and conventions,” the group added.

An EU court ruled on Wednesday that the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas should be removed from the European Union’s terrorist list.

In response to the decision, Speaker of the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) Dr. Ahmad Bahar said the resolution corroborates the legitimacy of Palestinians’ resistance of the Israeli occupation by all legal means available.

Bahar said the resolution stands as a victory for the international legitimacy and human rights laws.

“This is an unprecedented legal move . . . which confirms that Hamas is part and parcel of the Palestinian political system,” he said.

Meanwhile, Head of the Palestinian Forum in Britain Ziad Aloul acclaimed the decision, saying: “There is no doubt that the EU Court’s resolution to take out Hamas from the terrorist blacklist represents a victory for the Palestinian people and their resistance right.”

The move contributes in isolating the Israeli and American anti-Palestine policies, he added.

Reacting to the bid, the Israeli premier Benjamin Netanyahu responded by saying that Israel was “not satisfied” with the EU’s decision to remove Hamas from the terrorist list, calling on the EU to reconsider the resolution and re-blacklist Hamas as a terrorist group.

According to the EU court’s argument, Hamas was removed from the list because the evidence used to place the organization on the list did not meet European standards.
