High ranking rebel commander assassinated in northern Idlib

Another high ranking rebel commander has been assassinated in northern Syria this week, Syrian opposition activists reported this morning.

According to the opposition activists, the commander of the Sultan Murad Brigade, Abu Ahmad Sinsawi, was assassinated by unknown assailants inside the northern Idlib town of Al-Dana on Saturday.

Some opposition activists have taken to social media to accuse the Islamic State (ISIS) of carrying out this assassination; however, the aforementioned terrorist group has yet to make any statement.

ISIS has been recently targeting the rebel forces across Idlib, so it is very likely that one of their sleeper cells carried out this assassination.

The town of Al-Dana is currently controlled by the Turkish-backed rebel factions of northern Idlib; it had been relatively safe up until the Islamic State started carrying out attacks against opposition groups.
