Spokesman of Ansarullah Movement Mohammed Abdulsalam announced that the movement has freed over 50 prisoners of war (PoWs) in the province of Amran since the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan.

“After taking some steps in the holy Ramadan, Ansarullah set free 57 PoWs in Amran province,” Abdulsalam wrote on his Facebook page on Wednesday.

The Ansarullah movement’s spokesman, meantime, announced that the opposite side has not taken any measure to set free Ansarullah’s PoWs so far despite a request by the United Nations.

In late May, Abdulsalam underlined that the movement’s representatives will not listen to the dictations made by different parties during the new round of peace talks in Kuwait.

“We are fully ready for talks but it is the other side which is rocking the boat and is attempting to misuse the opportunity,” Abdulsalam was quoted as saying by al-Ahd news website.

“We have come to Kuwait for talks and not for listening to others’ dictations,” he added.

Abdulsalam said that the delegation representing the resigned Yemeni government is affiliated to Saudi Arabia, taking orders from Riyadh on how to hold the negotiations.

Yemen’s Ansarullah movement had also earlier strongly criticized the Saudi-backed delegation for withdrawing from peace talks in Kuwait.

Hamza al-Houthi, head of the Ansarullah delegation to the UN-sponsored talks, said that the decision was surprising and unjustified.

He also accused representatives of the ousted government of intransigence and attempts to thwart the peace talks.

Al-Houthi expressed hope that the other party will be more serious about finding a political solution to meet the demands of the Yemeni people.

He further said the negotiations were positive and focused on the ceasefire as well as the formation of a unity government among other issues.

The peace talks began on April 17 after a shaky ceasefire was consolidated.

Yemen has been under a relentless Saudi air campaign since March 26, 2015, launched in a bid to restore power to Hadi. More than 9,600 people have been killed in the airstrikes.
