Blast kills 2, injures many in NW Pakistan

At least two people have been killed and many others injured in a bombing at a police station in northwestern Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province.
Local police chief Abdul Ghafoor Afridi confirmed the death of a woman in the attack near the Domail police station in Bannu, on Wednesday. He added that more than 15 others, including six police officers and two children were also injured.
Police official Azmat Ali Khan also said that the attacker “hit a barrier installed at a distance from the police station. The woman killed in the attack was a civilian.”
According to the police chief, seven houses and a section of the police station have collapsed as a result of the blast.
Meanwhile, a bomb disposal squad official said that more than 500 kilograms of explosives were used in the attack.
Local officials say the vehicle the attacker used was completely destroyed.
The attacks come as Pakistan is preparing to hold its National Assembly elections on May 11. The National Assembly has a total of 342 members, of which 272 are elected by the popular vote. The last National Assembly elections were held in February 2008.
Pakistan will also hold elections for 577 seats of the provincial assemblies on the same day.
