Iran: Respecting Other Countries Sovereignty, Territorial Integrity Most Effective Way to Deal with Terrorism

Iranian President Seyed Ebrahim Rayeesi considered the most effective way to counter terrorism respect for the national sovereignty and territorial integrity of all regional states.

Iran’s president made the remarks in a meeting with Turkey’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in Tehran on Sunday.

“The effective exercise of national sovereignty of any government over all its territories is the best way to prevent terrorist and anti-security activities,” President Rayeesi stressed, pointing to Turkey’s security concerns in the region.

Pointing to the cultural and historical commonalities between Tehran and Ankara, the Iranian president expressed hope that the two countries would enhance cooperation during the new presidential term of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

He added the joint economic committee between Iran and Turkey would play an effective role in paving the way for increasing commercial interactions between the two countries.

Rayeesi emphasized the importance of effectively dealing with the presence of foreign forces in different regions, including the Caucasus, and stressed all states in every region should solve their problems through dialogue and collaboration.

The Turkish foreign minister, for his part, said Iran and Turkey have great capacities to expand cooperation and are capable of reaching a $30-billion target set for their annual trade.

Fidan further asked for Iran’s support for Turkey’s membership in the BRICS group, as well as the dialogue and collaboration between the two countries in the field of resolving regional issues.
