Independent MPs Hold Consultative Meeting Supporting Reform, Rejecting Foreign Interference

More than 60 independent Syrian MPs from different legislative terms held on Tuesday a consultative meeting under the title “Independent Parliamentarians for Syria”.

The participants underlined in the opening session that their meeting would lay down the first foundations which would contribute to a distinguished parliament formula as to establish for dialogue and exchange of ideas for the unity and protection of the homeland.

The participants pointed out that an MP should play his/her real and active role in society in bolstering of Syria’s national unity.

They highlighted the necessity of working to get out of the crisis which has generated economic and social problems and look into the different causes behind it with total transparency in a way to contribute to starting a comprehensive national dialogue based on Syria’s national principles.

The parliamentarians considered dialogue a national duty for preserving and developing what has been achieved in conformity with the people’s aspirations for freedom and prosperity. They stressed that the rejection of dialogue by any party puts this party on the opponent side to the people serving their enemies.

Most of the participant MPs applauded the role of the Army in defending the homeland and establishing security and stability as part of its national missions.

They stressed concerted efforts for the withdrawal of weapons from the saboteurs who infiltrate into demonstrations, attack citizens, security and army forces and sabotage public properties.

The participants called upon the parliamentarians to shoulder their responsibilities in protecting Syria against the dangers and conspiracy targeting its stability, security and resistant approach.

They also called on the legislative authority to work on combating corruption and approaching people and solving their problems.

The independent MPs underscored the importance of the laws and decrees issued by President Bashar al-Assad and their support to the comprehensive reform program, rejecting any foreign interference in Syria’s internal affairs and all that might harm its national unity.

They stressed the need of developing a vision of a versified and strong economy that opens prospects for national and foreign investments and providing job opportunities for the youth.

The MPs agreed on forming a committee that represents the independent parliamentarians to follow up on their issues and call for consultative meetings for national dialogue in the coming period.
