NATO says US soldier killed in Afghanistan

NATO’s International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) says that a US service member has been killed in southern Afghanistan.

“One US service member was killed during an insurgent attack in southern Afghanistan, yesterday,” ISAF said in a statement on Tuesday.

It did not give any further details of the attack or where it occurred.

The fatality comes a day after NATO announced four US soldiers were killed in separate attacks – three Sunday and one Monday.

The latest death brings to 16 the number of US troops killed in Afghanistan this month. October was the deadliest month for the US military in the eight-year war with 58 service members killed.

Meanwhile, President Barack Obama is expected to announce his new war strategy for deploying more troops in the war-torn country as early as next week.

Despite the presence of 68,000 US troops in Afghanistan and a total of 100,000 international forces, the country is soaked in militant attacks and roadside bombings.
