Deputy foreign minister for Euro-American affairs said Monday that Iran will not accept any pre-condition for attending the Geneva II conference on Syria.
According to IRNA, Majid Takht Ravanchi made the remarks in a meeting with visiting President of the Socialists in the European Parliament Hannes Swoboda and his accompanying delegation.
He voiced Iran’s readiness to play a positive role in the Geneva confab.
Referring to anti-Iran sanctions as illegitimate, Takht Ravanchi said the West, particularly the US should lift the restrictions in line with the confidence building trend.
For his part, the European official referred to the influential role Iran plays in the region and stressed the significance of Tehran’s presence in the Geneva II conference.
Swoboda said his visit to Iran is aimed at resuming parliamentary relations between the two nations.
The two further stressed the need to settle the Syrian crisis through peaceful means and with participation of all influential sides.
The Iranian and German officials then said terrorist and extremist groups are threatening the global and regional peace and stability and underlined the need to fight against such phenomena.
