Iran and Azerbaijan Conduct Joint Military Drills in Karabakh to Enhance Border Security

Iran and Azerbaijan's special forces initiated a collaborative military exercise named "Aras-2025" in the Karabakh region on Sunday.

According to the RNA news agency, joint military exercises involving the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) and Azerbaijani special forces are set to continue until May 21.

A report indicates that a specific battalion from the IRGC Ground Forces, accompanied by an esteemed military delegation, entered Azerbaijan through the Bileh-Savar border in Iran’s Ardabil Province to participate in military exercises.

The parties conducted a ceremonial welcome and subsequently convened a high-level meeting, during which key commanders deliberated on the objectives, scenarios, and stages of the joint exercise.

Brigadier General Vali Madani, Deputy Commander of the IRGC Ground Forces Operations, stated, “This exercise is a crucial measure in enhancing border security and addressing potential threats.”

As per the report, the Iranian delegation present at the exercise location underscored their ability to execute coordinated measures in response to any possible border threats.

The joint military exercise comes in the wake of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s visit to Azerbaijan on April 28.

In a meeting held in Baku, Iranian representative Pezeshkian underscored Tehran’s commitment to fostering strategic relations with Azerbaijan in all domains during discussions with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

In November 2024, the two nations carried out a collaborative naval exercise in the Caspian Sea, highlighting an increasing trend of military cooperation between them.
