Iran and Saudi Arabia Reaffirm Robust Backing for Syria’s Sovereignty Amid ‘israeli’ Tensions
Iranian and Saudi officials have jointly reaffirmed their dedication to upholding Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity, denouncing the Israeli military actions against the Arab nation, labeling them as "destabilizing and unlawful."

During a Sunday meeting in Riyadh, Iran’s envoy for Syria, Mohammad-Reza Raouf Sheibani, and Saudi Arabia’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs, Saud al-Sati, discussed the unfolding situation in Syria, highlighting the wider ramifications of Israeli airstrikes in the area.
‘Causing widespread harm and creating instability’
Iran’s representative, Sheibani, reaffirmed the nation’s unwavering backing of Syria’s unity and sovereignty, vehemently criticizing the Israeli regime’s assaults as both destructive and destabilizing. He stressed that these actions compromise regional stability and breach international standards.
Al-Sati echoed similar sentiments, reaffirming Saudi Arabia’s unwavering commitment to supporting Syria’s territorial integrity, peace, and stability.
He denounced the regime’s assaults on Syrian soil, emphasizing the necessity for compliance with international law and respect for national sovereignty globally.
Both parties concurred on the significance of ongoing consultations concerning regional developments, highlighting the necessity for collaborative efforts to tackle existing challenges.
The meeting formed a segment of Sheibani’s ongoing regional consultations, which have encompassed dialogues with officials from Russia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates.
Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman recently visited Iran to bolster consultations between the two nations on regional matters.
Iran reiterated its support for Syria’s sovereignty, a stance previously communicated through various official declarations. This affirmation comes amidst a surge in Israeli hostilities throughout the West Asia region, affecting areas such as the Gaza Strip, Lebanon, and Syria.
On Friday, Iran issued a condemnation of the regime’s airstrikes on Syria, asserting that the strikes were intended to dismantle the defensive, economic, and infrastructural capabilities of a sovereign nation.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei issued a condemnation, highlighting that the ongoing atrocities align with Tel Aviv’s agenda to further its detrimental interests in the region.
**UN Criticizes Israel**
The United Nations has voiced its concern regarding the ongoing aggression.
On Sunday, UN Special Envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen, denounced the increasing infractions by the regime against Syria’s sovereignty. He called for an urgent halt to the airstrikes and emphasized the need for adherence to international law and preservation of Syria’s territorial integrity.
Late last month, the Israeli government significantly intensified its military actions against Syria as Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) sought to gain control over the nation.
HTS, known for its aggressive military campaign, successfully took control of the country last December.
