Iran announces launch of two significant space projects

Iran is to launch the satellite-carrier Kavoshgar-5 with a living organism on board in a month.

The rocket has successfully passed every preparatory stage and will take a monkey into space by the next month, said Director of Iran Space Agency, Hamid Fazeli on Wednesday in Iran’s Amirkabir University of Technology (Tehran Polytechnic(.

The launch was supposed to take place few months ago but was delayed due to further tests.

Fazeli also announced Fajr satellite will be sent into space in a few months. The satellite manufactured by Sanaye Electronic Iran (Iran’s electronic industry) company, is a great achievement for the country in orbit maneuver and orbit change field by a cold gas thruster, he noted.

It is predicted that Fajr will be placed at a low altitude of 250 and high altitude of 370 kilometers where in the highest altitude a cold gas thruster will be activated to turn its oval route into a circle route with an altitude of 400 kilometers. The satellite will be in the space for about one and a half year that’s a record for Iranian satellites.

Fazeli’s announcement about the two space projects was made on the sidelines of a ceremony staged to present an ultrasonic wind tunnel with the purpose of testing aircrafts made by Amirkabir University.

The wind tunnel will be used to simulate airflow conditions, such as speed, temperature, humidity, density, and viscosity similar to that found in the real environment in which the object is to work. The device prepares a safe and economical situation to test aerodynamic objects.

The university has been using an ultrasonic wind tunnel with the speed of 45 meters per second but the new model will enjoy the speed of 60 meters per second. The test section is 2-1-1 and the length 15.2 meters.
