Iran Announces Lowest Daily COVID-19 Death Toll in 70 days

Iran has recorded its lowest daily death toll from the novel coronavirus over the past 70 days, the Health Ministry spokesman announced Saturday.

Speaking at a press conference on Saturday, Kianoosh Jahanpoor said COVID-19 has taken the lives of only 35 patients during the past 24 hours, the lowest number of daily fatalities since March 8.

While the daily deaths from coronavirus has fell to below 40 cases after 70 days, the total death toll from the infectious disease in the country stands at 6,937, he added.

The spokesman also noted that the number of people tested positive for the coronavirus across Iran has risen to 118,392 following the detection of 1,757 new cases since Friday noon.

At least 93,147 positive cases in the country have fully recovered from the coronavirus and have been discharged from the hospital, Jahanpoor added.

Among the cases undergoing treatment in the hospital at present, 2,716 patients have critical health conditions because of more severe infection, he noted.

The spokesperson added that more than 672,600 coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far.

More than 4,629,000 people have been infected with COVID-19 globally, and the death toll has exceeded 308,000.
