Iran calls on Ukraine to cease its support for terrorist activities in the region

The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has urged Ukraine to halt its support for terrorist activities within the West Asia region.

Mehr News Agency has reported that Mojtaba Damirchiloo, who serves as the Assistant to the Iranian Foreign Minister and the Director General of the Eurasia Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, addressed allegations concerning the unauthorized trade of weapons sourced from the United States by certain Ukrainian officials. Additionally, he commented on Ukraine’s purported backing of designated terrorist groups operating in Syria.

He described these actions as a clear breach of international obligations concerning the prevention and fight against terrorism, urging for their immediate halt.

Highlighting the perilous nature of Takfiri terrorist factions in Syria, which the UN Security Council has long recognized as terrorist organizations, Damirchiloo criticized the deployment of these groups to destabilize the West Asia region. He condemned this strategy as unethical and a violation of international law principles and norms.

A high-ranking Iranian diplomat has emphasized that historical evidence demonstrates alliances with terrorist organizations invariably result in heightened insecurity and violence globally. Furthermore, the diplomat warned that such repercussions will eventually impact those who provide support to these groups.

In other parts of his speech, he denounced the ongoing unsupported allegations by Ukrainian authorities concerning Iran’s purported involvement in the Ukraine conflict. Reiterating Iran’s stance, he emphasized that the Islamic Republic has persistently opposed the war since its inception, has not been involved in the hostilities, and has consistently advocated for dialogue to achieve a diplomatic resolution to the disputes.
