Iran Proposes Mediation in Pakistan-India Peace Talks, Announces President Pezeshkian

Masoud Pezeshkian has indicated Iran's willingness to mediate in establishing a durable peace agreement between Pakistan and India.

Pezeshkian articulated his comments during a phone conversation with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday.

The Iranian president emphasized that Iran’s core policy is centered on enhancing de-escalation and promoting global peace, with a particular focus on the Islamic world.

The Islamic Republic has expressed support for initiatives aimed at fostering enduring peace between Pakistan and India, offering to serve as a mediator in efforts to achieve this goal, according to a statement.

He extended his congratulations to the Pakistani prime minister on the occasion of Eid al-Adha, the Islamic Feast of Sacrifice, highlighting the importance of unity among Muslim nations.

In response to Sharif’s invitation to visit Pakistan, Pezeshkian confirmed that he instructed his administration to investigate methods to strengthen relations between Tehran and Islamabad.

The Prime Minister of Pakistan extended warm Eid al-Adha greetings and conveyed best wishes to the people of Iran and the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

He reflected on his recent trip to Tehran, where he engaged in fruitful talks concerning defense, security, economic issues, and various other subjects.

Sharif expressed optimism regarding the implementation of bilateral agreements recently signed between Pakistan and Iran.

The prime minister has suggested that an Iranian delegation visit Pakistan ahead of President Pezeshkian’s planned future visit.

In lauding Iran’s stance on the tensions between Pakistan and India, he reiterated Islamabad’s dedication to engaging in dialogue with New Delhi to attain peace and expressed appreciation for Iran’s mediation efforts in this context.

In May, India and Pakistan engaged in their most intense military confrontation in decades, involving the deployment of fighter jets, missiles, and drones equipped with explosives. The four-day conflict culminated in a ceasefire agreement.
