Iran Carries Out Execution of Man Convicted in Fatal 2023 Azerbaijan Embassy Assault
Iran's Judiciary has announced the execution of the individual found guilty of the 2023 deadly assault on the Azerbaijani embassy in Tehran.

The Judiciary announced on Wednesday that the principle of retribution was enforced earlier today against the individual responsible for the attack on the Azerbaijani embassy in Tehran.
In a tragic incident in January 2023, an assailant opened fire at Azerbaijan’s embassy in Tehran, resulting in the death of one individual and injuring two others.
In the aftermath of the attack, tensions between Azerbaijan and Iran heightened, leading Baku to shut down its embassy and withdraw staff, labeling the incident as a “terrorist act.”
An initial investigation conducted by Iranian authorities has determined that the attack was driven by “personal and family-related issues,” according to their findings.
In mid-2024, Azerbaijan officially reopened its embassy following the court’s decision to hand down a death sentence to the attacker.
In a bid to enhance bilateral relations, Masoud Pezeshkian made an official visit to Baku late last month.
The two nations engaged in collaborative military exercises in November and again earlier this month.
