D8 senior experts meeting due to be held in Tehran

The first D8 senior experts meeting will be held in Tehran from January 21-22 to explore avenues for promotion of economic cooperation and set up joint investment funds, said the deputy minister of finance and economic affairs.
According to a report by the Public Relations Department of Iran’s Investment and Economic Assistance Organization, Behrouz Alishiri added that the topics for discussion include establishment of independent institutions within D8, export of technical engineering services and making joint investment.
The event will be organized by foreign ministry and D8 Secretariat.
D8 is a group of developing countries with large Muslim populations that have formed an economic development alliance. It consists of Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Turkey.
The objectives of D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation are to improve member states’ position in the global economy, diversify and create new opportunities in trade relations, enhance participation in decision-making at international level, and improve standards of living.
D8 is a global arrangement rather than a regional one given the composition of its members.
