Iran Expresses Willingness to Rebuild Syrian Airports

The head of the Civil Aviation Organization of Iran (CAOI) has announced that Iran is prepared to rebuild airports in Syria, including Damascus Airport.

Mohammad Mohammadi Bakhsh stated that Iranian and Syrian officials had discussed matters concerning the country’s plan of transporting 50 thousand pilgrims to Syria annually.

He further remarked that Iran has offered to rebuild Syria’s airports, including Damascus Airport, and is prepared to do so.

The head of the CAO stated that certain accords were achieved with respect to the education of the Syrian air force staff.

He concluded that a stronger connection between Iran and Syria could be developed through the growth of mutual flights.

On Wednesday, Iran’s transportation minister Mehrdad Bazrpash announced that an agreement was signed with Syrian authorities earlier in the day, allowing 50,000 Iranian pilgrims to travel to Syria annually.

In the People’s Palace in Damascus, 15 memoranda of understanding (MoUs) were signed by Iranian Judiciary Chief Ebrahim Raeisi and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Iran and Syria will be able to boost their trade and economic ties significantly with the signing of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), as Syria is now emerging from more than 10 years of conflict against foreign-backed militants.

Bazrpash estimated that, on average, 1,000 pilgrims will be able to make the weekly trip from Iran to Syria in order to honor the sacred shrines of Hazrat Zaynab (AS) and Hazrat Ruqayya (AS) located in Damascus.

He announced that within the next two months, Iranian pilgrims will be able to visit Syria via three to five direct regular flights per week between Iranian cities and Damascus.
