Iran, Qatar share common stance

Iran’s First Vice President Mohammad Reza Rahimi praises friendly relations between the Islamic Republic and Qatar, saying the two countries share a common political stance.

“Ties between Iran and Qatar are strong. Tehran and Doha have many political commonalties in the international arena,” IRNA quoted Rahimi as speaking ahead of his departure for the Qatari capital of Doha on Sunday.

The Iranian official added that Qatar’s influential role on regional issues, including Palestine, has strengthened Tehran-Doha relations.

He said his visit to Qatar is aimed at implementing trade and economic agreements already signed between the two countries, adding officials of the two sides would mainly raise economic issues in their talks.

“Qatar plays a very important role in the Middle East and the Persian Gulf as well as international circles,” Rahimi said.

He expressed hope that the implementation of previous agreements and removal of visa for businessmen of the two countries would increase bilateral trade and economic exchanges.

The Iranian vice president emphasized that friendly ties between the Islamic Republic and Qatar should be served as a model for all regional countries.

Rahimi left Tehran for Doha on Sunday at the head of a high-ranking economic delegation for a two-day visit at the official invitation of Qatari Crown Prince Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.

He is scheduled to hold talks with the Qatari emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and the crown prince. He will also attend a meeting with Iranian and Qatari tradesmen and economic activists.
