It has been one year since the Syrian Al-Qaeda affiliate “Jabhat Al-Nusra” took control of the U.N. Ceasefire checkpoint in the Syrian Golan Heights and while they have not publicly endorsed the aforementioned Islamist group, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have reportedly provided logistics and medical treatment to Al-Nusra’s wounded militants in the Al-Quneitra Governorate.

According to the Haaretz (zionist Israeli newspaper), a senior IDF officer has reiterated the halting of all medical treatment to the terrorist group.

A senior Israel Defense Forces officer revealed Monday that Israel has stopped treating members of an extremist Syrian rebel group wounded in that country’s ongoing civil war. The policy change concerning the Al-Qaida-linked Nusra Front was made about six weeks ago.

The senior IDF officer further added that a number of Al-Nusra fighters had in fact received treatment inside Israeli medical facilities, while they were combatting the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and National Defense Forces in Al-Quneitra:

According to the officer, a number of injured Nusra Front fighters had received medical treatment in Israel. The officer described those injured as having “infiltrated” into Israel to receive the treatment. However, the army’s background checks on the injured had not been thorough, he admitted. According to the officer, since the policy change the army has been checking the identity of everyone entering Israel for medical treatment.

Recent clashes between the Druze of Majdal Al-Shamis and Israeli security forces in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights have prompted the Israeli government to take precautionary measures to protect the wounded Jabhat Al-Nusra fighters seeking medical attention.

However, it appears these precautionary measures did not last long, as the IDF Central Command have changed their stance and refused to treat Jabhat Al-Nusra’s fighters in order to ease tensions with the Druze communities in the Golan Heights:

The change took place a month after Israeli Druze ambushed wounded Syrian rebels being transported in IDF ambulances, killing one of the men. Five members of the Druze community were later arrested on suspicion of murder.

The senior Israeli officer asserted that the IDF had not given any lethal support to the terrorist, despite numerous claims from local activists and accusations from the Syrian government:

“Israel didn’t give one shekel or one bullet to Al-Nusra members. There were individuals who infiltrated to receive medical treatment,” the officer said. “That ceased a month-and-a-half ago, and there have not been any more.”
