Iran Marks 46th Anniversary of Islamic Republic, Commemorating End of US-Backed Pahlavi Rule

Iran has marked the 46th anniversary of the Islamic Republic's foundation, recalling a pivotal referendum where citizens overwhelmingly supported transitioning from monarchical rule shortly after the fall of the US-supported Pahlavi regime.

In a pivotal two-day referendum conducted on March 30-31, 1979, an overwhelming 98.2 percent of eligible Iranian voters endorsed the formation of an Islamic Republic in the nation.

The recent vote, conducted just under two months following the triumph of the Islamic Revolution, is regarded as a pivotal moment in Iran’s contemporary history.

The nation observes April 1 on the Iranian calendar, marking Farvardin 12, as the annual Islamic Republic Day.

The Islamic Revolution, spearheaded by the late Imam Khomeini, resulted in the ousting of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi and marked the conclusion of 2,500 years of monarchic governance in Iran.

The foundation of the Islamic Republic in Iran traces back to the 1979 Islamic Revolution, guided by the popular slogan advocating for “Independence, Freedom, and the Islamic Republic.”

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has praised Iran’s accomplishments, highlighting them as a significant success despite facing numerous challenges and conspiracies.

On Monday, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) issued a statement lauding the Iranian nation’s enduring sacrifices in advancing the achievements of the 1979 Islamic Revolution, in spite of ongoing Western maneuvers over the decades.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has highlighted several accomplishments stemming from the 1979 Islamic Revolution. According to the IRGC, these include the establishment of Islamic independence and freedom within the country, an anti-imperialist ethos, enhanced national dignity, and the elimination of the humiliation brought about by foreign domination and the Pahlavi regime’s dependency. Furthermore, the IRGC noted an increase in political awareness among Iranians, coupled with advancements in science and technology across various strategic domains, particularly in defense and deterrence.

The statement lauded the development of a distinct Iranian Islamic identity, highlighting the growth of optimism, vitality, unity, and national cohesion. It also celebrated the rise in self-belief and self-reliance, as well as the emergence of human talents and significant historical figures over the past 46 years.

In a recent statement, the ascent of Iran as a key regional player, along with its influence in shaping Islamic awakening and resistance, has been highlighted as pivotal achievements on the international stage. The statement further emphasized the breaking of imperial arrogance, the rise of courage to confront global oppressive powers, and the dismantling of the divide between oppressors and the oppressed. Additionally, it noted the revival of religion and faith worldwide, the echo of justice and victimhood discourse in major global forums, and the emergence of hope among the marginalized. The Islamic Republic’s accomplishments should not be overlooked or minimized in the face of media propaganda, the statement asserted.
