Iran MP urges serious anti-terror fight

A senior member of the Iranian Parliament (Majlis) says Iran and Pakistan have the potential to eradicate terrorism in the region through expanding strong cooperation.

In a meeting with visiting Pakistani Senate Chairman Farooq H Naik in Tehran on Sunday, Head of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi added that Tehran and Islamabad should use mutual capabilities to strengthen relations in all fields despite opposition by the US and Britain.

He stressed the importance of promoting cooperation between the two countries’ parliaments and said Iran’s Majlis is ready to take steps in this regard, Majlis news agency (ICANA) reported.

The Pakistani Senate chairman lauded Iran’s fundamental role in restoring peace and security in the region and said his country welcomes cooperation with Tehran to improve stability among regional countries.

Naik expressed Pakistan’s resolve to bolster ties with Tehran and emphasized that no obstacle can affect amicable relations between the two nations.

Meanwhile, in a separate meeting with Pakistani Senate chairman, Head of Iran-Pakistan Parliamentary Friendship Group Ali Akbar Aqaei called for enhanced relations between the two countries with regard to deep commonalties.

“Iran’s achievements in economic, industrial and technological fields created great opportunities for Tehran and Islamabad to expand mutual relations,” the Iranian lawmaker said.

He deplored the interference of foreign forces in internal affairs of regional countries, stressing, “We believe that the presence of foreign powers, particularly the US, in the region is a threat to regional peace and security.

Regional issues should be settled by regional countries,” the legislator went on to emphasize.
