The Real Face of U.S Democracy

Canadian police have arrested at least 90 demonstrators protesting in the city of Montreal against a planned mine construction in the province of Quebec.

The Saturday protest turned violent after police clashed with the protesters who were trying to disrupt a conference on Quebec Premier Jean Charest’s plan for the construction.

The rally that had been organized, inter alia, by students and environmentalists, was staged under heavy rain.

Riot police cordoned off the scene of the clashes and tightened security around the convention center.

The protest came a day after the Montreal police clashed with students at a protest rally against tuition fee hikes.

Riot police used tear gas, projectiles and rubber bullets on hundreds of students protesting outside a convention center in downtown Montreal where Charest was scheduled to give a speech.

At least six protesters were wounded and 20 others arrested in the clashes.
