Revolutionary Bahraini People continue protest rallies in several provinces

335970_Bahrain-ProtestRevolutionary Bahraini People have once again staged anti-regime protests across the Persian Gulf country despite a ban on demonstrations and an intensified crackdown on activists.

On Thursday, Bahraini demonstrators took to the streets in several towns including Karzakan, Moqaba and Sanabis, calling for an end to the rule of the Al Khalifa regime.

Bahrain has been the scene of street protests since 2011. The protesters are calling for the Al Khalifa royal family to relinquish power.

Scores have been killed, many of them under torture while in custody, and thousands more detained over the past months, according to local sources.

On November 19, Sheikh Ali Salman, the head of Bahrain’s main opposition bloc, al-Wefaq, condemned the Manama regime’s crackdown, saying the opposition seeks democracy and is against acts of violence in the country.

“The torture continues, unfair trials continue,” said Salman, adding, “Nearly 3,000 people are in jail and the numbers increase all the time.”

United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay told the UN Human Rights Council in September that she was frustrated with reports of human rights violations in the country.

“The deep polarization of society and the harsh clampdown on human rights defenders and peaceful protesters continue to make a durable solution more difficult to secure,” Pillay said.
