Iran sends 85-ton humanitarian aid convoy to North Korea

Iran has dispatched a consignment of humanitarian aid to Pyongyang as part of efforts to help the North Korean people who are struggling with hunger and malnutrition in the East Asian country.

Head of the Public Relations department of Iran’s Red Crescent Society (IRCS) Pouya Hajian said Sunday that the 85-ton batch comprising flour, powder milk and rice arrived in Sunan International Airport in Pyongyang on the same day, and was delivered to North Korea’s Red Cross officials, IRIB reported.

North Korea’s South Hwanghae Province has recently been hit with a severe famine.

The acute famine was reportedly caused by heavy rains and flooding last year, which sharply reduced the harvest of crops in the region.

North Korea was struck by a terrible famine in the 1990s that killed many people.
