Map- Syrian Army squeezes ISIS pocket in south Damascus from 3 directions

The Syrian Army and allied Palestinian forces continue to squeeze Islamic State (or ISIS) militants in southern Damascus from three directions – the north, south and west.

On Saturday, the Syrian Army and its allies scored their biggest single advance of the southern Damascus operation to date – one that saw the seizure of the Al-Qadam district as well as the neighborhoods of Al-Madaniyah and Al-Asali.

Since then, ISIS terrorists have regrouped in the districts of Yarmouk Camp and Hajjar al-Aswad and are now taking up positions originally established by them some five years ago.

At the same time, the Russian military is preparing to evacuate rebel fighters from the districts of Yalda, Beit Sahm and Al-Babila to other militant-controlled areas of Syria; government forces are to assume control over rebel positions amid this withdrawal.

By taking up rebel positions in Yalda, the Syrian Army will be able to open a fourth front against Islamic State forces in southern Damascus.
