Iran to generate power from garbage

Tehran’s Mayer Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said the country plans to run the system of generating electricity from garbage for the first time in the country.

According to Ghalibaf, the measure is rare not only in Tehran, but in the whole country.

Six companies from Japan, France, Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia have already studied possibilities to generate electricity from waste in Yangon, a former capital of Burma (Myanmar) and the capital of Yangon Region, during the period from April to October 2011, according to an official from Sanitation and Environmental Conversation Department of the Yangon City Development Committee. Although the foreign companies conducted feasibility surveys to generate electricity form waste in the past, they were not able to start their operations due to restrictions including the use of land.
