Iran to host ICID conference in mid-October

Iran will play host to the 62nd Conference of the International Commission of Irrigation and Drainage (ICID) from October 15-23, said secretary general of Iranian National Committee on Irrigation and Drainage (IRNCID).

Asadollah Asadollahi added that the event will be held concurrent with the 21st International Seminar on Irrigation and Drainage and the Eighth International Micro Irrigation Congress in the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) International Conferences Hall.

The conference is to be attended by 1,100 experts from Iran and over 60 other countries.

Asadollahi further noted that representatives of World Bank, FAO and six ministers from different countries will be special guests of the ICID conference.

The main session of ICDI will convene on October 19.

The International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID) was established on 24 June, 1950 as a scientific, technical and voluntary non-profit international organization (NGO) with its headquarters in New Delhi, India.

The Commission is dedicated to enhancing the worldwide supply of food for all people by improving water and land management and the productivity of irrigated and drained lands through appropriate management of water, environment and application of irrigation, drainage and flood management techniques.

The commission currently has 106 members and Iran became its member in 1969.

The mission of ICID is to stimulate and promote the development and application of the arts, sciences and techniques of engineering, agriculture, economics, ecological and social sciences in managing water and land resources for irrigation, drainage, flood management and river training applications, including research and development and capacity building for achieving sustainable irrigated agriculture.
