Iran to inaugurate three auto plants

Iranian lawmaker Reza Rahmani has announced plans to inaugurate three auto manufacturing plants in the country’s East Azarbaijan Province.
Rahmani said the first phase of a 200,000-unit auto manufacturing plant would be inaugurated by the “10 days of dawn” celebrations from February 1 to 11 — which mark the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979.
The lawmaker added that in addition to the auto plant a passenger bus and a truck manufacturing plant were also due to be inaugurated during the same time period.
“The inauguration of these factories is an important event for the province and has significant importance in job-creation for East Azarbaijan,” Rahmani said.
“The government’s presence in the province provides a historical opportunity,” he added.
In August, a report by the Paris-based International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (OICA) placed Iran on the list of top-five global carmakers with the most growth in 2009.
Iran’s car production showed a 9.5 percent growth last year, ranking fifth on the OICA chart after China, Taiwan, Romania and India.
