Iran trying to end Syria crisis: Ahmadinejad

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says the Islamic Republic is making every effort to promote national reconciliation in Syria and put an end to violence in the crisis-stricken nation.

During a meeting with the member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Bakir Izetbegovic on the sidelines of the 12th summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Cairo on Thursday, Ahmadinejad called on all members of the international community to spare no effort to help Syria overcome its current problems.

He also praised attempts made by Iran, Egypt and Turkey to resolve the Syrian crisis.

Tehran strongly believes that every nation is entitled to liberty, justice and independence, but such ideals cannot be achieved by means of war, Ahmadinejad pointed out.

“The rights of all ranks of the Syrian society, given its tribal structure, can only be restored through unity and national reconciliation. The Islamic Republic of Iran is trying to work out a solution and end the Syrian unrest,” the Iranian president said.

Ahmadinejad reiterated the urgent need for national reconciliation in Syria, expressing hope that all parties involved in the Syrian conflict would shun violence and follow the path to national dialogue, understanding and free elections.

Izetbegovic, for his part, lauded Iran’s progress in various scientific, economic and cultural fields and called for the expansion of Sarajevo-Tehran relations.

He noted that Bosnian Muslims would like to see an increase in the Islamic world’s influence in the international arena.
