Rouhani: US Looking for Creating Rift among Iranians

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani underlined the importance of maintaining national unity in the wake of enemies’ plots, and said that Washington is looking for deteriorating the conditions of the people of Iran by sowing the seeds of discord among them.

“The US is trying to create a gap between the nation and the establishment,” President Rouhani said on Monday addressing a gathering of governors in Tehran.

“We should remain united,” he said, adding, “Don’t turn your back on elections. Even if we see defects in the election, we should not let our unity shattered on election’s day.”

The 11th Iranian parliamentary election is scheduled for February 21, 2020. The upcoming elections will be held in over 200 constituencies across the country’s 31 provinces. The Iranian parliament has 290 members who are elected by the people for a four-year term.

In relevant remarks on Sunday, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif sternly reprimanded US President Donald Trump for making foreign policy decisions based on biased news outlets and inept translators, advising the American official to read the entire text of the top diplomat’s interview before commenting on it.

“Donald Trump is better advised to base his foreign policy comments and decisions on facts, rather than Fox News headlines or his Farsi translators,” Zarif tweeted, striking back at the US President for basing his foreign policy on Fox News or translators rather than on facts.
