White and racist police officers in the United States kill minorities with impunity and affected communities must continue protesting to stop the daily violence perpetrated against them, a social justice activist in Chicago says.

“Over and over again, the police force in the US has benefited from impunity,” said Joe Iosbaker, a member of the Chicago Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression (CAARPR).

“Racist cops murder blacks and Latinos and then they don’t go to prison,” Iosbaker told Press TV on Sunday.

“Many of the elected officials in the US are talking now about police accountability and the movement is going beyond just talking about accountability,” he added.

Several hundred protesters marched in Chicago, Illinois on Saturday to decry racial profiling and police killings in the black community.

Police arrested at least 60 protesters outside a meeting of the International Association of Chiefs of Police.

The protesters marched from the Chicago police headquarters to the police conference at McCormick Place where police chiefs from around the country are meeting over the weekend.

During the demonstration, several protesters reportedly chained themselves together, in an attempt to disrupt the annual convention, with law enforcement using handsaws to break through their bonds.

An increase in unlawful arrests and the killing of black people in recent years has sparked campaigns against police brutality and racial profiling in the US.

On Thursday, US President Barack Obama admitted that police violence against African Americans has become a “real” and “legitimate” issue that needs to be addressed.
