Iran will give befitting reply to threats

A top Iranian Army commander has warned against threats on the country, saying Iran’s Army is preparing to give a befitting response.

“Iran’s Army is constantly studying and analyzing ground, air and sea threats and is prepared for (countering) them,” ISNA quoted Commander of the Iranian Army’s Ground Forces Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan as saying on Monday.

“Regarding threats raised by some media quoting certain military commanders, we believe that the enemies are not in a position to launch operational threats against the Islamic Republic,” he added.

He downplayed the possibility of establishing a ‘third front’ against Iran as enemies are suffering heavy damage in the region every day.

The commander reiterated that Iran’s Army also pays attention to ‘soft threats’ and said Iran’s ground forces have adopted measures to confront such threats.

The United States and its staunch ally, Israel, have in the past few years, repeatedly threatened to launch a military attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities over accusations that Tehran is developing nuclear weapons.

Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Mike Mullen voiced Washington’s latest threat of war last month, saying the US military was prepared to attack Iran, if that would stop Tehran from making a ‘bomb.’

Iranian officials have dismissed the threats, but warned that any military strike against Iran would have adverse consequences that would spread beyond the Middle East.

Tehran has repeatedly rejected such Western allegations, insisting that as a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, Iran is only after civilian and peaceful applications of nuclear technology.
