Iran will continue with its missile tests in due course, says Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Hassan Firouzabadi.

He said Wednesday that the tests would resume in line with the directives of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

During nuclear negotiations between Tehran and the global powers, the United States and its allies exerted pressure on Iran over its military capabilities.

Iran, however, said it would only discuss its nuclear program as its missiles are solely employed as a deterrent against any potential foreign aggression.

Iran and the P5+1 – the US, Britain, Russia, China, France, and Germany – reached a historic agreement in Vienna on July 14 that was subsequently backed by the United Nations Security Council.

Based on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Tehran will limit its nuclear activities in exchange for, among others, removal of anti-Iran sanctions.

The Islamic Republic has repeatedly said that its military might poses no threat to other countries, reiterating that its defense doctrine is merely based on deterrence.
