Iranian Leader’s Top Aide Blasts US, Europe for Ignoring Human Rights Violation in Yemen

Iranian Supreme Leader’s top Aide for International Affairs Ali Akbar Velayati voiced concern about the large number of Yemeni people killed, wounded and displaced in the Saudi-led war, rapping the western states for their silence on anti-humane crimes in Yemen.

“In a world that the oppressed and defenseless Yemeni people are targeted by invading US-Saudi coalition missiles and bombs, where millions of people have been displaced and killed, including women, children, the elderly and young people, you observe some European states who claim to defend human rights have kept mum,” Velayati said, addressing the Muslim researchers and elites in Tehran on Wednesday.

He also criticized Washington for extending military and political support for Saudi Arabia in the war against Yemen, and said the US president clearly says that his country supports the Yemen war until the “milking cows” pay money for the US-made weapons and create jobs for the American people.

The Saudi-led coalition has been striking Yemen since March 2015 to restore power to fugitive president Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh. The Saudi-led aggression has so far killed at least 20,000 Yemenis, including hundreds of women and children.

Despite Riyadh’s claims that it is bombing the positions of the Ansarullah fighters, Saudi bombers are flattening residential areas and civilian infrastructures.

According to several reports, the Saudi-led air campaign against Yemen has driven the impoverished country towards humanitarian disaster, as Saudi Arabia’s deadly campaign prevented the patients from travelling abroad for treatment and blocked the entry of medicine into the war-torn country.

Yemen is the world’s largest humanitarian crisis with more than 22 million people in need and is seeing a spike in needs, fueled by ongoing conflict, a collapsing economy and diminished social services and livelihoods.

A UN panel has compiled a detailed report of civilian casualties caused by the Saudi military and its allies during their war against Yemen, saying the Riyadh-led coalition has used precision-guided munitions in its raids on civilian targets.
