Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari announced that his forces will hold 20 military drills in the current Iranian year (March 20, 2016 – March 20, 2017).

Speaking to reporters in the northern city of Rasht on Sunday evening, Sayyari announced that an electronic warfare exercise was held earlier last week by the naval forces, adding that by the end of this Iranian year, 20 war games are planned to be staged.

Sayyari then praised the Navy’s military might and said Iran’s territorial waters are “in full security”.

“The Navy’s defense capabilities are so high that no enemy would dare to invade the territorial waters of Iran,” the commander noted.

Earlier in May, Rear Admiral Sayyari had announced that that the military drills, which include electronic warfare, missile tests, intelligence operations, deployment of submarines, and relief and rescue operations, would start in a few weeks.

Iran has repeatedly declared that its military drills pose no threat to other countries and that the Islamic Republic’s defense doctrine is entirely based on deterrence.
