Saudi Confirms Army Commander Killed near Yemen Border

Saudi Arabia’s army has confirmed that an army commander Brigadier General Ibrahim Hamzi has been killed in the southern part of the country near the border with Yemen.

The army announced on Sunday that Brigadier General Ibrahim Hamzi, the deputy commander of the 8th brigade in southwestern province of Jizan, was killed in conflict with Yemeni forces fighting against Saudi aggression of their country.

On March 26, Saudi Arabia started its military aggression against Yemen – without a United Nations mandate – in a bid to undermine the Houthi Ansarullah movement and restore power to the fugitive former Yemeni president, Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, a staunch ally of Riyadh.

According to a report released on September 19 by Yemen’s Civil Coalition, over 6,000 Yemenis have so far lost their lives in the Saudi airstrikes, and a total of nearly 14,000 people have been injured.

Saudi Arabia’s official news agency, the SPA, said the general died of his injuries after being taken to hospital.

There has been no information on the exact date of the incident that led to the death of the general.

Yemeni forces have so far killed scores of Saudi forces in retaliatory attacks on the border.

Yemen’s al-Masirah TV reported on September 25 that a Saudi colonel, identified as Hassan Ghashoum Aghili, and two other military staff, including a high-ranking officer, were killed in the al-Khobe region of Jizan during clashes with Ansarullah fighters supported by Yemeni army units that had penetrated into the Saudi territory; Press TV reported.
