Iranian President to Visit Damascus on Wednesday for Crucial Negotiations with Syrian Counterpart

Ebrahim Raeisi, the President of Iran, is set to make an official trip to Syria for formal discussions with Bashar al-Assad, the Syrian President, and other esteemed figures.

According to Iran’s official IRNA news agency, a delegation of high-ranking Iranian political and economic officials will be accompanying the country’s President, Raeisi, when he arrives in Damascus on Wednesday.

During his two-day visit, the President of Iran will be conferring with high-ranking Syrian officials on the matter of furthering political ties, as well as advancing economic and trade collaboration between Tehran and Damascus.

Hossein Akbari, Iran’s Ambassador to Damascus, tweeted on Monday that he will be taking a visit to Syria on an official invitation from President Assad.

It has been over a decade since an Iranian president last visited Damascus, making Iranian President Raeisi’s upcoming trip an historic one.

On Monday, Syria’s official SANA news agency confirmed a visit between the Iranian and Syrian presidents, during which they are expected to discuss bilateral relations, joint political and economic agreements, and regional developments.

There is reportedly some displeasure within the Israeli regime regarding the impending visit of the Iranian president to Syria.

The Israeli media have raised fears regarding Ebrahim Raeisi’s excursion, claiming it to be “unusual” and that Israeli authorities should be attentive.

Israel’s Channel 13 television network reported that President Ebrahim Raeisi’s trip to Damascus is his first since 2011, and that he is expected to make field visits outside of the planned protocols.
