Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps Establishes Airbase for Helicopters and Drones in Southeastern Region

The city of Zahedan, located in Sistan and Balouchestan Province, has seen the inauguration of an airbase by the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps, with the aim of boosting the drone and helicopter fleet in the southeastern region of the country.

On Wednesday, Major General Hossein Salami, the first-in-command of the IRGC, attended the inauguration ceremony for an airbase, as announced by the IRGC’s public relations.

The IRGC Ground Force’s aviation division has established a base that is capable of hosting combat, search and rescue helicopters, as well as a range of drones, the statement said.

The base, named after Martyr Ali Arabi, has been built according to the most recent engineering protocols and aviation regulations, the statement noted.

At the inaugural event, Brigadier General Mohammad Pakpour, commander of the IRGC Ground Forces, stated that the new base would bolster their helicopter fleet in the southeast of the nation, enabling them to carry out various defense, rescue, logistics, and relief operations.

He stated that the base is equipped with the capacity for refueling, hangar, repairs, and maintenance, and has the capacity to launch multiple helicopters simultaneously.

Recent years have seen the IRGC develop various types of drones, leading to the emergence of a new base.

On April 9, the IRGC Ground Force unveiled the Me’raj 532, a new suicide drone with capabilities of flying up to 12,000 feet for 3 hours and taking off from a vehicle. Link.

Two days after, the force revealed another UAV made in the country, called Mohajer 6, that is a drone jammer that can transmit radio signals of interference.

In recent years, Iran has made impressive strides in achieving self-sufficiency in manufacturing its own military equipment.

Iranian officials have stated repeatedly that they will continue to bolster their defensive capabilities, with an emphasis on their missile capabilities, stressing that they are strictly for defensive purposes.
