Iran urges destruction of Israel’s separation barrier in Gaza

Iran’s envoy to the UN has called on the international community to force Israel into stopping the construction of Zionist settlements and destroy the separation barrier in Gaza Strip.

“The international community must try to force Israel to meet its international obligations, stop constructing [Zionist] settlements, destroy the racist barrier in Gaza Strip and stop its further construction,” Iran’s Permanent Representative and Ambassador to the UN office in Geneva Mohammad-Reza Sajjadi said on Saturday.

Gaza Strip barrier is a separation barrier first constructed by Israel in 1994 in addition to the barrier which was finished in 2005 to separate the Gaza Strip and Egypt.

The fence runs along the entire land border of the Gaza Strip and is made up of wire fencing with posts and in addition to steel walls on lands bordering Egypt.

Sajjadi called for a collective effort to put an end to the systematic violation of human rights by Israel and anti-human actions which are committed by the regime’s forces on a daily basis.

He also welcomed efforts made by the United Nations, its specialized agencies and concerned committees to support the legitimate struggle of the Palestinian people in order to regain their rights and achieve their ideals.

The United Nations General Assembly on Thursday voted to upgrade Palestine’s status at the UN from “observer entity” to “non-member observer state” despite strong opposition from Israel and the US.

The upgrade allows the Palestinians to participate in debates at the UN General Assembly and improve their chances of joining UN agencies, including the International Criminal Court where they could file complaints against Israel.
