Iran’s highest concrete dam launched

Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has inaugurated the country’s highest concrete dam in the southwestern Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province.

The Karoun 4 Dam has been built by Iranian experts at the cost of about 900 million dollars some 180 kilometers southeast of Shahrekord city .

The 230 meter-high dam has the capacity of storing 2.2 billion cubic meters of water.

The reservoir is designed to generate 1000 MW of hydro-electricity and prevent downstream floods.

On Monday, President Ahmadinejad also inaugurated the Zirdan reservoir, some 150 Kilometers northwest of Chabahar port.

The reservoir, which has the country’s second roller compaction concrete (RCC) dam, will provide drinking water to 260 communities, including the Chabahar port. It has the capacity of storing 207 million cubic meters of water.

It enjoys a sophisticated irrigation system costing around 150 million dollars and will be able to supply water for 2,000 hectares of farmland in the adjacent valley.
