The Syrian army has been pressing ahead with pounding positions of the al-Qaeda-affiliated al-Nusra Front after killing a military chief belonging to the terrorist group.

According to media reports on Friday, some of the terrorist group’s commanders have been injured or killed in new Syrian airstrikes on the city of Aqraba on the outskirts of Dara’a province.

Units of the Syrian army and armed forces destroyed weapons and ammunition and killed many terrorists in other areas in the southern part of the province including the towns of Kafr Nasij, al-Teiheh, al-Sheikh Miskeen, al-Fqei’, Ibta, Samlin and Zamrin.

The Syrian army also conducted successful operations in other Syrian provinces including Idlib, Homs, Quneitra, Aleppo, and Homs.

On Thursday, more than a dozen senior leaders of al-Nusra were killed in airstrikes by the Syrian army in the al-Habit area of the Idlib Province.

The terrorist group said on social media on Thursday that its military chief, Abu Homam al-Shami, was killed in the attacks.

Abu Musab Falastini, Abu Omar Kurdi, and Abu Baraa Ansari were three other leaders of the terrorist group killed in the attacks.

Al-Nusra Front, along with many other foreign-backed Takfiri groups, including the ISIL terrorist group, is operating against the government of the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Syria has been grappling with a deadly crisis since March 2011. The violence fueled by Takfiri groups has so far claimed the lives of 210,000 people, according to reports.

New figures show that over 76,000 people, including thousands of children, lost their lives in Syria last year.
