Syrian Army captures more territory from retreating US-backed rebels near Iraqi border

The Syrian Army (SA), alongside several units from the Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units (Hashd Al-Sha’abi) and National Defense Forces (NDF), resumed their field operations in the southeastern countryside of Homs, today, targeting the Free Syrian Army’s (FSA) positions in the Badiya Al-Sham region.

Led by the 5th Corps, the Syrian Arab Army and their allies attacked the Free Syrian Army’s defenses at the Helba area, east of Al-Ulayaniyah.

Unable to fend-off the advancing Syrian government forces, the Free Syrian Army was forced to withdraw from the Helba area without putting up much of a fight.

With the Helba area under their control, the Syrian Arab Army now finds themselves less than 50km away from the Iraqi border.
