D8 Leaders Agree to Strengthen Integration among Member States

The Group of Eight Developing Countries (D8) agreed to develop a model for integration among member states and work with other sides to promote core values such as peace, cooperation and justice.

At the end of the D8 Summit in Islamabad on Thursday, leaders of Iran, Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan and Turkey signed Global Vision (2012-2030) document.

The document said that the D8 members are committed to promote fruitful collaboration and close cooperation between and among the member-states in the widest possible fields.

“We are committed to strive towards developing an appropriate model for integration among the member-states with a view to promote the Organization’s competitive edge at the international level.”

The document said that the D8 will collaborate with others on the basis such core values as peace, dialogue, cooperation, justice, equality, moderation, democracy, rule of law, harmony, peaceful coexistence, and inclusion.

It noted that the group aspires to become a dynamic economic grouping promoting sustainable development of its member-states, as well as be a major actor in the global economic governance and system, and international economic cooperation.

“We are committed to promote and enhance collaborative partnership and engagement between public and private sectors at the national level within and among the member-states.”

The document stressed that the D8 countries would work to pursue good governance, rule of law, sound economic policies, and political stability.

The D8 group comprises Iran, Turkey, Malaysia, Pakistan, Nigeria, Egypt, Bangladesh and Indonesia.

With a population of one billion people, the D8 group has a combined market value of one trillion dollars. It is determined to boost its trade volume to USD 500 billion by 2018.
