Iran’s Navy: ‘Iran to firmly react to enemy threats’

A top Iranian Navy commander has undermined threats against the Islamic Republic, saying the country’s naval forces will firmly defend national interests and counter threats posed by enemies.

“Iran’s Navy is a strategic force that will nip threats against the Islamic establishment in the bud thanks to its regional and extra-regional capabilities,” said Iran’s Navy Deputy Commander Rear Admiral Gholam Reza Khadem Bigham on Saturday.

He added that enemies resort to every possible means to dent Iran’s enormous military might.

As in the past three decades, the “global arrogance” continues with the plan to inflict harm on the Islamic Republic, said the commander, the Iranian nation will keep focusing on the path to progress and will not allow the enemy to impede the country’s development.

The remarks came as the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) plans to begin the second and naval phase of its Great Prophet 6 maneuvers on Sunday.

The IRGC started the drills last Monday.

On the first day, Iran unveiled underground silos meant to protect the country’s missiles and fired Fateh (Conqueror)-110 medium-range ballistic missiles, which have been fitted with improved precision targeting system.

On Tuesday, the military successfully launched 14 surface-to-surface missiles.

On the third day of the exercises the Armed Forces tested the domestically developed Ghadir radar system, which can monitor a radius of 1,100 at an altitude of 300 kilometers.

Tehran has repeatedly assured regional nations that its military might poses no threat to other countries, reiterating that Tehran’s defense doctrine is merely based on deterrence.
