Iran’s nuclear program politicized

Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has criticized Western countries for politicizing the country’s nuclear program.

“Iran’s nuclear program, which is a legal issue, has been turned into a political one by certain Western countries,” said Ahmadinejad in a meeting with Associated Press chief editors in New York, the presidential official website reported Saturday.

He said that Iran had cooperated with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) beyond its legal obligations but the agency, under pressure from Western countries, failed to deal with the issue from a legal perspective.

He said that the fact that Iran has acquired nuclear technology needs to be acknowledged, reiterating that Iran’s nuclear program is totally peaceful.

Regarding the 9/11 attacks, President Ahmadinejad said that Iran had proposed the establishment of a fact-finding committee to investigate different aspects of the attacks to bring masterminds of the attacks to justice but the US government refused the proposal and instead threatened Iran.

He said that the US announced that it had arrested the so-called mastermind and dumped his corpse into the sea but wisdom ordered that they prosecuted him and identified other elements as well.

The president said that an investigation into the attacks would clear Middle East nations of any accusation regarding the involvement in the attacks.

President Ahmadinejad arrived in New York at the head of a high-ranking delegation on Monday to deliver a speech at the 66th annual session of the United Nations General Assembly.

He delivered his speech about the Islamic Republic’s stance on latest international developments at the UN on Thursday.
